Housing Avala Park
The project's core idea was to conceptualise a complex of sustainable houses near the city and provide future residents with a unique quality of life in a natural environment.
The minimalist architectural expression, developing the theme of a single-story house with a pitched roof, caters to all the needs of a modern family.
The positioning of the buildings and the organization of space comply with the characteristics of the surrounding natural context. The entrance, bathroom, and technical room face the street, while the sleeping area is oriented towards the northeast where the terrain’s slope and the views extend towards Vrčin. The living area faces both northeast and northwest, encompassing a panoramic view from Vrčin to Avala.
The minimalist interior expression enhances a dynamic and playful game of different room heights. In accordance with the surface of each room, an appropriate ceiling height was applied to correspond both to the requirements of the room’s function and to the slope of the roof. This is another quality of this space that sets living in natural surroundings apart from common urban living in the city. The whiteness of the walls contributes to making the space visually larger and, along with tall windows (height 240 cm), provides a suitable backdrop for the dynamic game of light and shadows throughout the year.
A large terrace, covering 2/3 of the house, transforms the concept of a veranda and further enhances the horizontality of the structure in a contemporary manner, harmonising it with the surroundings.
Avala Park is a unique example of contemporary architecture that transforms elements of traditional architecture and integrates them into the natural environment, taming the built structure in line with the idea of sustainability.
