Housing MK6
This project is a response to current trends in domestic architecture, which are typified by increasing development pressure on the city’s remaining plots. It borrows from the architectural language of New Belgrade in terms of shape and proportion, while breaking with the market predilection towards small apartments by introducing multi-level homes from 150 m².
The project thoughtfully demonstrates the potential for spaces of the same square footage to be organized in various ways without destroying the proportional and structural framework of the building. Function flows from the spatial form and is oriented toward free facades.
Each apartment has two entrances, one which leads directly into the main living space, and one which passes indirectly through the kitchen, referencing and further developing a trope in Salon-style apartments, where the lines of communication between owners and service did not overlap.
The weightlessness of the facade is achieved by terraces that span the length of the south-facing street, and the wide passage of a streamlined main floor connects the courtyard with the street. This elevated passage leads to a reception area through which the apartments may be entered, delineating a border between public and private while retaining the visual link between the courtyard and the street, thus reaching out to further enrich the public space.
